What it is
A private, more intimate side of Tortuguero. We set out by boat from Mawamba — kayaks aboard — and glide through the canals to the secluded Laguna del Cuatro, a hidden lagoon where time seems to stand still, with only the river, the jungle, and the Caribbean around it.
A local family lives here, far from the noise of everything. They welcome you into their home for a genuinely authentic Caribbean moment: homemade treats cooked on a traditional wood-fired stove — freshly baked sweet breads, coconut fudge, coconut candies, and other local flavours. Afterward you can kayak the calm waters of the lagoon before the scenic ride back to the lodge, in time for lunch.
