What it is
A naturalist-guided walk along the Jaguar Trail inside Tortuguero National Park — a flat, well-marked path through dense lowland rainforest. The trail is named for the resident big cats (rarely seen, but their tracks are sometimes visible in the mud after rain).
What you’ll see
Howler and spider monkeys overhead, sloths in the cecropia trees, leaf-cutter ant highways crossing the path, poison-dart frogs, and 350+ bird species depending on season. Your guide carries a spotting scope.
Practical
- The trail runs 3 km total, flat and well-marked.
- Tortuguero National Park entrance: $16.95 USD per adult (incl. IVA) — not included in the tour.
- The park ticket is valid all day, so we recommend combining the Jaguar Trail with one of the water tours to make the most of it.
- Bring closed walking shoes — trail can be muddy
- Insect repellent recommended

Turtle nesting
A night on the protected beach to witness a green sea turtle nest, on the same sand where she was born — the experience that gave Tortuguero its name. Protection first; a sighting is never guaranteed.

Turtle hatchlings
Not a tour — a free, do-it-at-your-own-pace moment. Being right on the beach at Mawamba means you can simply walk out at the right hour and watch hatchlings find the sea.
